Risk Disclosure
Crypto exchanges carry real risks. Here’s a plain-language rundown of what to keep in mind before you exchange.
Market and rate risk
- Prices moveCryptocurrency prices can change quickly, sometimes significantly within minutes. The value you receive can differ from what you expected if the market moves between when you get a quote and when your exchange completes.
- Floating rates are estimates, not guaranteesUnless a provider offers a fixed-rate lock and you use it, the rate you see is a live estimate. Providers finalize the actual rate once your deposit is confirmed, which can differ from the quoted rate.
Blockchain and network risk
- Transfers are generally irreversibleOnce a blockchain transaction confirms, it typically cannot be cancelled, reversed, or recalled by anyone, including WalletExchange or the provider.
- Wrong network or wrong address means lost fundsSending an asset to an incompatible network, or to an incorrect address, can result in funds that are unrecoverable. Always double-check the network and address WalletExchange and your chosen provider display before sending anything.
- Network congestion and feesBlockchain network conditions outside anyone’s control can slow confirmation times or increase network fees, which can affect how long an exchange takes.
Provider and counterparty risk
- Your exchange is executed by the provider, not WalletExchangeOnce you proceed, you are transacting with the provider you selected. Their solvency, security practices, and operational reliability are their own, not WalletExchange’s.
- KYC and regulatory holds can interrupt an exchangeA provider may require identity verification, or may pause or decline an exchange, to comply with its own compliance obligations. These decisions and any resulting delays are outside WalletExchange’s control.
- Delays and refunds happenAn exchange can take longer than expected, or in some cases fail, due to network conditions, provider review, or other issues. Where a provider offers a refund for a failed exchange, its terms — not WalletExchange’s — govern how and whether that refund happens.
